Kalpetta is a town in the mountainous Wayanad region of Kerala, South India. It’s a gateway to the trails of lofty Chembra Peak and to Neelimala Viewpoint, which overlooks waterfalls and forested valleys.

Kalpetta, the small town lying on the Kozhikode- Mysore National Highway is the headquarters of Wayanad district. It is about 72 km from Kozhikode. The town surrounded by coffee plantations and mountains is a tourist hub as well as a major trading centre in the district. It is through Kalpetta the spices, coffee and tea produced in the mountains of Wayanad are traded out to various other regions of India.  Kalpetta is a stronghold of the Jains and you can see temples and various institutions run by Jains here. There are about 500 Jain families in Kalpetta today.

Soochipara Waterfalls Wayanad

This falls is located near Meppadi and is a true a treasure of nature. It gives perfect relaxation for the visitors. Soochi means Needle and Para mean Rock. Top looking sharp at the top These falls ranging from 100 – 300 feet height. The pool at the bottom is good for water rafting, swimming and bathing. Water flow will be high during the rainy season and normal during the summer season. It is 1.5 km trekking from the parking area to the falls.

Tholpetty is 20 km from Mananthavady, 13 km from Thirunelly and is located on the Kodagu road. Tholpetty Wildlife Sanctuary or Wayanad Wildlife sanctuary is located on the border of Karnataka state. Jeep Safari is available in this area. This sanctuary connects with Bandipur National Park in Karnataka and Mudumalai sanctuary in Tamil Nadu. This sanctuary inhabited by a variety of large wild animals such as Indian bison, elephant, deer, tiger, leopard etc. Peafowl is commonly seen in this sanctuary. Tree huts are available for the stay which gives the best experience.
